FMMC Celebrates Two-Year Pause of Medical Device Tax
Florida Medical Manufacturers Hopeful Full Repeal is Next

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA (January 23, 2018) – The Florida Medical Manufacturers Consortium (FMMC) applauded Congressional passage of another two-year suspension of the medical device excise tax included in the stop-gap government funding bill.

“The FMMC would like to thank the members of Florida’s Congressional delegation who have supported suspension and full repeal of the punitive medical device tax,” said Geary Havran, FMMC Chairman and President of NDH Medical, Inc. “This additional two-year moratorium of the device tax provides great relief to our industry and provides an important opportunity to pursue full repeal this year.”

“Bi-partisan majorities in both chambers, in two successive Congresses, have made it clear that the medical device excise tax hurts American med-tech innovation and manufacturing, and is a very bad idea,” said John Ray, FMMC Executive Director. “Incredibly, this now-dormant tax extracts 2.3% on every sale of medical devices, and cares not if the company is large or small, or actually making any profit at all. It is more than time for Congress to erase the medical device excise tax from our tax code.”
