Meeting the Challenges of Microbial Contamination In and On Medical Devices From Manufacturing, Storage, Use, Reuse, To Disposal

Overview: The medical device industry has been thrust into the press events and human tragedy of Healthcare-Acquired Infections and drug resistant microorganisms.  Normal hygiene practices have not fully served the needs for microbial control with medical devices.  Curtis (Curt) White, PhD, will provide a survey of the microbial problems associated with medical devices, their causes, and explore methods of detection and interdiction.

Dr. Curtis (Curt) White has been involved in the research, development, registration, and commercialization of antimicrobial agents since 1962 as a professor and working at Dow Chemical, F. Jos Lamb, Dow Corning, and Aegis.  Currently, Dr. White serves as Chief Technology Consultant and President for White IEQ Consulting, LLC (Midland, MI), and is the Chairperson of the Independent Commission for Improvement of Healthcare Outcomes and Cost-Containment in the Veteran’s Administration and Department of Defense Healthcare Systems.  Dr. White is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.  He is recognized as a leader in the understanding and control of microbial problems on substrates, in products, and in the indoor environment.  He has over 50 patents and 200 plus technical, trade, and standards organizations papers and presentations.  He has spoken to medical forums in Europe, the USA, Singapore, and India on infection control principles.  Most recently, Dr. White became the CEO/CTO of Nano Safe Coatings, a company that provides the latest in antimicrobial technology for the complex world of medical devices.
